I've heard it all: "So when are you going to get a real job?" "Whatcha doing tonight? Hanging out?" "So whats your day job?" To many people being a DJ isn't a "real job" .... Im here to inform the masses, they are right! Being a dj is more than just a job, its a business! Despite the perception that a party or show is all fun and games there is so much more that goes into earning a living as a DJ. Meetings, emails, phone calls, marketing, travel ,contracts, dealing with clients.... something I've been familiar with for a very long time.
Growing up- my parents organized more than just card parties and barbecues at the crib. They promoted events, and good ones at that! Parties that resembled a 90's edition of "Harlem Nights". Nice cars and beautiful black people dressed to the 9's. I would consider myself the character "Quick" from the movie, its where I got my start DJing at the age of 12. It almost seems as though it was manifest destiny. Music has always been a big part of my life.
A while back I teamed up with cinematographer Tedd Huff to produce a short film documenting a road-trip from Atlanta to the Queen City, Charlotte, NC. We litterally piled a few of the homies in a van and let the cameras roll. The end product a dope short titled "A DAY IN THE NIGHT with THE DEBONAIR DJ"
Fitness is all about consistency. Set a goal and continuously work to achieve it. Majority of my nights are spent in houses of bad habits. Definately not the ideal schedule for a 6am workout so I found a way to guarantee I get my workout in..... I go straight to the gym after the club!!! I know it seems crazy but it actually works for me.
So my girlfriend says she's gonna be home in 15 min....
